To prepare for the text essay, choose a text we have studied and practice writing about each of the following. Ensure you include 3 reasons and examples for each.
  • A character you liked or disliked.
  • A major theme of the text.
  • A scene or event that you found powerful, or enjoyed.
  • A synopsis (summary) of the plot.
  • (For the the film only) Some of the musical or visual effects used and how they relate to characters, events or themes.
To prepare for the creative writing, choose a topic from the creative writing units of Secondary English 3. Spend 40 minutes writing on this topic. Be sure to plan before you begin so that you can effectively structure and finish your response.

To prepare for the close reading section, practice using the comprehension units from Secondary English 3. Ensure that you use clear detail and explanations in your answers.

REMEMBER TO USE CLEAR PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE FOR THE ESSAY AND CREATIVE WRITING:
- Topic sentence :: This sentence introduces the topic/subject of the paragraph and its main point.

- Body sentences :: These sentences provide examples and supporting evidence for the topic or point.
